Introducing Immeasurably More: 7

by Nolan Schmidt and Emma Beaver

Several years ago, Northstar began prayerfully seeking a place to call home. Miracle after miracle led us to a lot on Prices Fork. In 2014, we purchased 10 acres of land on Prices Fork Road, trusting the Lord that one day, our Church would gather there in its own facility for ministry. In September 2015, we celebrated a groundbreaking service. It wasn't until 2019 that our contractor "broke ground" on the church building that now stands today. On Easter Sunday 2021, after more than a decade as a nomadic church, Northstar opened our doors on Prices Fork. We are deeply aware and immensely thankful that this building is an answer to years of faithful prayer.

On any given Sunday, the Northstar Church building allows us to accommodate more people. We believe God is doing a new thing, and we are excited to see the Lord’s plan for the future of Northstar unfold. Since moving into the building, we’ve seen tremendous growth, meaning so many families in the New River Valley have walked through our doors and heard the hope of Jesus.

We trust that God has been faithful in providing us with this building, and we trust that He WILL provide as we move forward. We are never owners, always stewards. Together, we have decided that we can best steward Northstar’s resources by paying our debt quickly, thus freeing up more funds for ministry in the New River Valley and beyond. That’s why we are continuing our Immeasurably More campaign to pay off our debt in seven years and focus on the future of ministry. We’re referring to our seven-year plan as “Immeasurably More 7,” or “IM7.” By paying off our mortgage in just seven years, we would make $900,000 in interest savings available to His work!

Why IM:7?

IM:7 is about our relationship with God. It is about listening and growing closer to Him. He is the creator of the heavens and the earth. He owns everything. Again, we are never owners, always stewards. At its heart, IM:7 is not about the money. It’s about Jesus and His plan.

While this plan involves a physical building, IM:7 is about far more than a building. We believe the building is just a tool, a banner to bring glory to His name. We are His church. The Lord wants to use us to bring many to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. God wants to use this building as a launching pad to prepare us for His great commission.

What’s Next?

We are trusting God to provide in a significant way, to accomplish a goal that may seem impossible in our own estimation: a 7-year debt payoff. As we embark on this journey in faith, we humbly ask:

  • Seek the Lord, and ask Him what He would have you commit to giving. Northstar has provided Commitment Cards at the February Member meeting, by mail, or available at Church.
  • After you and your family respond to the Lord’s guidance in giving, turn in your commitment at the Welcome Desk. To help our Stewardship Team as we plan for the coming year, we ask that you turn this card in by March 27.
  • ONLINE. You can also fill out the commitment card online here.

As you give in support of IM:7, please make sure to mark your checks as “IM:7” on the memo line or choose “IM:7” when you give online. Other giving will be directed to the general ministry budget, allowing Northstar to continue our day-to-day ministry.

Monthly Prayer Gatherings

As we take this next step, we are walking in prayer and seeking the Lord’s counsel. To continue in this spirit of prayer, we invite you to join us for a monthly prayer time on the second Tuesday of each month at 12pm and 6pm.

For many years, we have adopted the mission of “don’t go to church, be the church.” Our vision is that we would go and make disciples in the New River Valley and across the world. We anticipate all that is to come.

“Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:7-8)
