"Each person should do as he has decided in his heart —
not reluctantly or out of compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver."
- 2 Corinthians 9:7

Why is year-end giving important?

As you prayerfully consider your year‑end giving, we invite you to give joyfully, generously, and with gratitude for all God has done and continues to do through Northstar Church. We also invite you to prayerfully consider that your generous gift today enables us to press forward in faith for tomorrow's expansion of ministry.

As 2025 draws to a close, we pause to reflect on God’s faithfulness and all He has done through our church family and through your generous giving. Every gift given helps us continue to actively be the church. Your faithful giving enables us to fund existing ministries while also  planning effectively for future growth, impact and ministry opportunities that God invites us into.

How to Give

Click on any of the sections below for more information.
Checks or Cash
Mail gifts or deliver in person:
Please make sure all gifts intended for 2025 are post‑marked by December 31. Checks can be mailed to:

Northstar Church
3929 Prices Fork Rd.
Blacksburg, VA 24063

You are also welcome to drop off your gift during Sunday worship services or through your online giving account. Cash gifts can be placed in the offering as you worship.
Stocks & Mutual Funds
Giving stocks or mutual funds can be a meaningful way to maximize your generosity. When appreciated securities are given directly to the church rather than sold, you may avoid capital gains tax on the increase in value while still receiving a charitable deduction. Consult your financial or tax advisor to see how this might apply to your situation.

For instructions on transferring stocks or mutual funds to Northstar Church, please contact our Finance Secretary or your broker for the appropriate account details.
IRA Charitable Distributions
If you are 70½ years or older, you may be eligible to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to Northstar Church. A QCD allows you to distribute funds directly from your IRA to a qualified charity without reporting the distribution as taxable income. This can be a tax‑wise way to give, especially if it counts toward your IRA’s Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).

Contact your financial institution or tax advisor to arrange an IRA charitable distribution, and be sure to instruct the custodian to send your gift to:

Northstar Church
3929 Prices Fork Rd.
Blacksburg, VA 24063

(If your IRA custodian requires additional details or if you need help with the church’s tax ID/EIN, please reach out to Northstar's finance secretary.)

Giving Guidelines

Give Cheerfully

Give cheerfully! (2 Corinthians 9:7) We want your heart in it more than we want your gift. (We obviously are grateful for your gift!) But your motive for giving is deeply important for your full blessing. Give with thanks. Give with joy. Give with humility. Give in recognition of all that God has done for you

Give Proportionally

(1 Corinthians 16:2, Malachi 3:10) The Old Testament principle is the tithe – 10%. Our church even practices this by giving away 10% of our expenses budget to other ministries and partners. The important thing is to give proportionally to how God is blessing and providing. And to also give in faith that He will provide! You’ll notice that as you give proportionally and regularly (our next point) that there will come a time that you don’t “notice” how much you’re giving. In those moments, consider whether you should increase or reevaluate your giving.

Give Regularly

(1 Corinthians 16:2) We encourage you to make a habit on days that you pay your bills of allowing your first check/payment to be your offering. It reflects your heart and priority. It makes a statement to yourself – that God has provided and that you want to thank Him for what He’s done. Giving regularly helps Northstar and other ministries to plan better, to be able to budget wisely, and it helps you not “spend first and give what’s left.”

Give Sacrificially

(2 Corinthians 8:2-5) There are times that God will call you to give more. To break your ingrained habit of giving a set amount to give more. To give above and beyond. And even to do without something you may enjoy in order to give something extravagant. This is done as God moves in your life on occasion to call you to give significantly.
