Please join us in welcoming Jessica Yalung as a new Children’s Ministry assistant! Jessica will primarily focus on our Bloom (preschool) ministry. We feel extremely blessed to have Jessica as part of our team and we know you will feel blessed by her as well!
If you haven’t met Jessica, here are a few tidbits about her. We encourage you to introduce yourself and get to know her and her family. You’ll be glad you did!
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in State College, Pennsylvania and moved to Blacksburg when I was a senior in high school.
Where did you go to college and what did you major in?
I went to Virginia Tech and studied Human Development. I also went to NC State for grad school and received my Master of Arts in Teaching.
Tell us about your family.
Justin and I met at Virginia Tech and were married the summer after I graduated. We have been married for 8 years and now have two little boys. Ezra is 5 and will start kindergarten this fall. Micah is almost four. We also have a Westie named Charlie or Charleston, when he is in trouble. We love spending time outside and try to take the boys on “adventures” every weekend.
How long have you been going to Northstar and what led your family here?
We have been at Northstar for about two years. We had recently moved into our house in Blacksburg and found the church we were going to was just too far away for us to feel connected to the people. I had met several friends in my MOPS group that attended Northstar. These ladies all seemed to just ooze a love for Jesus so we decided to check it out.
What areas of ministry are you involved in at Northstar?
I volunteer in the Jumpstart class during Sunday mornings. I also had the privilege of leading a K-2 group at the MOVE summer camp last year.
What is one of your favorite kid moments while working with the Jumpstart kids?
My favorite moments are when the kids pray. I love to hear their hearts and their sweet child-like faith. But the paper plane races during jumpstart free time are also fantastic!
What are you looking forward to the most about this new position at Northstar?
I’m excited about getting to know more of the families in our church and for spending some time with the younger kids.
