We (Alex & Neal) read Jeff’s blog post about being intentional in walking with Christ during transitions and breaks, as in the “monthish” long Christmas break most college students enjoy. The post was excellent and convicting, you can check it out by clicking here.
And while we fully intend to download Jeff’s plan for spiritual growth we also talked about how awesome it is during breaks to enjoy routinelessness. One of our favorite routineless indulgences are movies and we have a special classification we call “soul movies.” A soul movie is a movie in which we see components of the gospel of Jesus in the storyline like forgiveness, reconciliation, redemption, grace, community, sacrifice, and so on. Soul movies end with the main character(s) living different, more glorious life just like us when we follow Jesus.
Disclaimer: We are not talking about “Christian” movies. In fact a lot of our “soul movies” are not suitable for immature audiences and some are rated R by the Motion Picture Industry. Also because for brevity’s sake, we decided not to explain why the movies made our list, so if you are curious, you will have to ask us.
