When I was growing up my favorite holiday was the opening of gun deer season. If you did not know deer season was an official holiday then you didn’t grow up in Arkansas. Each year my dad would take off work, check me out of school and we would spend a few days at “deer camp”. Deer camp was the greatest place in the world to me as a kid. A place where the men just hung out as they cooked, chopped wood, tended the fire, and occasionally actually hunted. I loved being around the “men” and listening to their stories. That is the spirit of Trout Camp except fishing (or not fishing) is a lot easier to include a lot of guys and their kids.
What is Trout Camp?
Trout Camp is about guys and their kids hanging out together around cooking, a fire, corn-hole, or maybe fishing. Trout Camp is a great weekend to invite a co-worker, neighbor, or classmate to come hang out with your Northstar buddies. Most of the weekend is unscheduled, but we will have a few guys share their stories following a couple of the meals.
Where is Trout Camp?
This year Trout Camp is going to be at Douthat State Park in Millboro, VA 24460. Check it out here.
When is Trout Camp?
The optimal Trout Camp experience would be to get to Douthat State Park Friday, May 17 in the afternoon or early evening and stay most of the day Saturday, May 18. It is close enough to Blacksburg to just come down for Friday evening only or Saturday only. Just FYI – Friday or Saturday only will require a $4.00 park entry fee.
How much does Trout Camp cost?
Food & Gas – Every Trout Camper will be responsible for their own food & travel. Once everyone has signed up we will send out an e-mail encouraging everyone who signs up to carpool and maybe partner up for meals if they want.
