Jeff became Northstar's second pastor in 2009 after the retirement of founding pastor Bob Jackson. He and his family are from southeast Arkansas where he served as a campus minister at the University of Arkansas at Monticello for eight years before planting Journey Church there and serving as its founding pastor for six years.
Julie grew up in Augusta, Georgia. She received a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University in 2004 and a Master’s degree as a Reading Specialist from Radford University in 2010. She previously worked as a classroom teacher and reading specialist in the area.
Matt comes to us from Richmond, Virginia. He has lived in the Short Pump area and currently lives with his family in Mechanicsville. He graduated from Virginia Tech this past spring with a degree in Business Management. Matt says he enjoys any kind of sports, as well as hiking, camping, campfires, boating, and spending quality time with friends.
Erin grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania then attended Messiah College where she played lacrosse and earned her degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Marriage and Family Counseling. Since then she has been working in the health and fitness field in various positions.
Graduates & Professionals Minister
Matt was raised on a small farm outside of Gettysburg, PA. He was homeschooled K-12, but don't hold that against him. Upon graduating high school, Matt went to work in the outdoor recreation industry, which ignited a passion for the outdoors that he still carries today.
Tanner has lived in the New River Valley most of his life. He is a musician, businessperson, and a wannabe world traveler. He earned his master’s degree in Philosophical Apologetics at Biola University in 2011.
Megan was born and raised in Southwest Virginia. She moved to the New River Valley in 2003 when she entered Radford University as a freshman. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology in 2007.
Joseph is from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and is a recent graduate of Virginia Tech. He loves watching Tech football and basketball, playing and listening to music, and especially riding rollercoasters whenever he can. If he is ever not in Blacksburg, he likely off at one of his favorite amusement parks.
Paisleigh is from Virginia Beach, but also lived in Colombia, SC for several years. She transferred to Virginia Tech from Baylor, and is studying History with a minor in Psychology. She is involved in Cru, where she developed her passion for leading worship and sharing Jesus' love. She is a member of VT's chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta and continues her lifelong love of dance with The Ballet Project. She loves yoga, puzzles, and is trying to pick up calligraphy!
Nick is from Danville, VA, and is majoring in Philsophy, Politics, and Economics and minoring in Leadership and Social Change. He has been involved with BCM since his freshman year of college where God has grown his heart for evangelism and loving people. In his free time, Nick likes reading, running, being outside, and just hanging out with other people.
Megan is from Fairfax, VA, and is majoring in Biology and minoring in French. She joined Cru during her freshmen year and was saved towards the end of her first semester in 2016. Her heart for international mission has grown since going to Paris, France for summer mission through Cru in previous years. She finds joy in building relationships with others and listening to their stories. In her free time, Megan enjoys baking, painting, music, hiking, and good cup of coffee.
Matt Mills is a 6th year senior from Mechanicsville, VA, with a major in statistics and a minor in film. He is involved with Cru and has been since his sophomore year. He has really enjoyed getting to invest in Cru as a Bible study leader and discipler. In his free time he enjoys cooking, video games, hip-hop dancing, foolin' around on a guitar, and spending quality time with friends.
