Building a Discipleship Culture, 3

This video is the third in our summer series of 2011 to equip and train our church to be disciple makers. The discussion guide for the video is also posted. We’re grateful for Real Life Ministries and their pastor, Jim Putman’s materials on Real Life Discipleship for the concepts and some of the content of this session.

Building a Discipleship Culture, Part 3

Review:

Why is it important to be unified in our definition of a disciple and the discipleship process?
Why is important to have a process for bringing people to maturity in Christ?
What were some of the attitudes/characteristics of each stage?

Take time to look up the following scriptures and share with one another what they say about spiritual growth and maturity:

Colossians 1.27-29
Ephesians 4.13-14
2 Thessalonians 1.3
Hebrews 5.13-14
2 Peter 3.18

Where do you think you might be in your spiritual growth stage? Remember, one stage is not more important than another. The goal is growth. While there are stages that are more strategic, they all represent people dearly loved by God. We are to encourage one another daily and “consider how to stir up one another to love and good works” (Hebrews 10.24).

Review the process of leading people from one stage to another. (SCMD)

SHARE: Spiritually Dead – Infant
CONNECT : Child
MINISTER: Young Adult
DISCIPLE: Parent

What are some practical ways that you can think of to prepare yourself to SHARE with someone who is spiritually dead? With someone who is a new Christian (infant)?

Why is important to CONNECT a child with a spiritual family and small group?

For spiritual young adults, what is important about helping them to begin MINISTER?

What do you see as some of the main blessings of being a DISCIPLE MAKER as a spiritual parent?

What do you think your next step in the spiritual growth process is?
