Missions

Our Vision: To lead all members of Northstar to actively and intentionally present the Gospel of Christ to our neighbors and to the nations.

Our Purpose: To foster a missionary culture in Northstar that informs, inspires, equips and mobilizes people to glorify God locally and globally.

Raising Support for your missions opportunity this Summer? Northstar would love to consider partnering with you in your service to the Kingdom. Please contact our Missions Team for more information.

Interested in serving with us THIS year? Here are some options we would love you to pray about:

  1. Conversation Partners: Staying in Blacksburg? Serve the International Students right here on Virginia Tech’s campus! Click here for more information or contact Bryan Worrall.
  2. Serve on the Missions Team: The Northstar missions team is committed to helping our church family engage in missions and we would love to have you join us! Join the facebook group (bottom of the page) or contact the Mission Team Coordinator for meeting times and information.

Here are some practical ways to get involved: going, praying, sending and welcoming.

GOING: Here are some practical ways you can go serve overseas.

  • College Student? Check out the IMB Student website, with hundreds of missions opportunities.
  • Professional? Check out the IMB Marketplace Advance website, which provides options for working overseas in unreached areas.
  • Northstar Missions Application. If you would like to participate in one of mission trips, you’ll need to fill out this application and bring it in to the church office.

PRAYING: God answers prayers! This is one way you can stay active at any moment, no matter where you are.

  • Grab a prayer card at Sunday service at the Missions table.
  • Check out Joshua Project online and pray for some of the world’s most unreached people groups. Download the app to pray for a different people group each day.
  • Learn about different prayer needs around the world in Operation World.

SENDING: Those who go can’t send themselves. Supporting other missionaries is a great way not only to serve a tangible need, but to partner with them in ministry.

  • Support Northstar members as they go out on mission
  • Give to the Lottie Moon fund through the IMB, which sends hundreds of missionaries around the world.

WELCOMING: Virginia Tech hosts 2,578 International Students from nations all around the world. The biggest senders? China and Saudi Arabia! Here are some opportunities to reach out to them.

  • Get a Conversation Partner through the Cru’s Bridges program. Email Bridges to get signed up.
  • Attend an English Conversation Group through the Cranwell International Center.
  • Attend ACROSS, an International social event, at the BCM every Friday at 7 p.m.

For more information about these opportunities or other ways to be involved, email the Mission Team Coordinator.
