Meet Jessica Yalung

Though Pastor Appreciation Month is technically over, we still want to take time to appreciate and get to know our church staff. Today we get to know Jessica Yalung!

jessica yalungJessica Yalung is one of our fabulous Children’s Ministry workers here at Northstar! She prepares curriculum and activities for the toddler and preschool classes and also volunteers in Jumpstart. She is also mom to her boys, Ezra, age 5, Micah, age 4, and their dog, Charlie. Before children, she worked as an elementary school teacher.

Jessica loves to read, but “the only books [she’s] ever read multiple times are Anne of Green Gables and the Little House on the Prairie series.” Her family spends a lot of time reading as well. They also love movie nights with popcorn. Jessica’s family enjoys “quiet Saturdays at home,” but they also do quite a bit of traveling. Jessica says, “We also travel quite a bit to see our extended family. It’s important for us to give our boys a lot of time and memories with their great grandparents which means we spend a lot of time traveling to upstate New York.”

In addition to visiting family, it is a family goal to “visit every National Park.” Last year her family visited seven parks: Acadia National Park in Maine, the Might 5 in Utah, and the Grand Canyon. There are two parks up for this year: Shenandoah National Park and the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Jessica explains, “There is so much beauty to see in the U.S.A. The wide variety of landscapes in our own country is amazing and humbling. I am regularly awed by God’s amazing creation.”

Jessica uses these three words to describe Northstar: “Family, Christ-centered, and authentic.” About Northstar, she further explains, “I love that Northstar really challenges its members to be the church and that there are so many ways to become invested at Northstar that truly every person’s skills and interests can be used in some way. I also love that Northstar is Christ-centered. This church has an amazing ability to have fun together while also discipling its members and honoring God. When Justin and I were looking for a church we were drawn to Northstar because it seemed like everyone we knew that was on fire for Jesus and just oozed His love also happened to go to Northstar.”

Jessica regularly finds herself drawing inspiration from Galatians 6:9, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Most recently, God has been teaching Jessica “to find [her] contentment and worth in [her] relationship with Him.
