The Kids Side of #BIGsmallGroup

Blog, Children's Ministry

Did you know that the grown-ups are not the only ones who got to enjoy an evening of food, fellowship, and biblical discussion each Wednesday night during our summer? That’s right. Each week while the adults were gathering together and splitting off into table groups, the Northstar Kids listened to stories about Jesus and participated in activities that helped them …

The Importance of the Small Group

Blog

I have a tendency to watch people. In fact, observing is a part of my job description as a school counselor. I spend the majority of my time in classrooms keeping track of certain kids’ behavior. This works out well because, for as far back as I can recall, I’ve been a people watcher. During college, half the fun of …

Orange Conference 2016: A First-Timer’s Perspective

Blog, Children's Ministry

I’ve been hearing great things about the Orange Conference for years. Even before I became involved with Northstar’s children’s ministry, a friend encouraged me to attend the annual conference. He told me it would change my life. Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to join our kids’ ministry staff for three days in Atlanta for this year’s conference. To …

Jumpstart Gives Back

Be The Church, Blog, Children's Ministry

Last semester, Northstar Church walked through the introduction to our Immeasurably More campaign. Through this, we have been challenged to give generously and sacrificially as we move forward in the building process. Coming out of this campaign, our leaders in Jumpstart began discussing ways in which we could encourage our kids to give, as well. Initially, the thought was that …

Recently, our own Lori Miller was able to share the gospel with people through a program called Finding Faith in Horsemanship. She, along with fellow horse trainer Shelby Rader, led a demonstration for 25 attenders from all walks of life. They ranged in age from 8 …

Special Guests on Palm Sunday

Be The Church, Blog, Children's Ministry

Each year as we approach Easter, our kids take the time to remember the story of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. For the kids, a key moment in the story comes as Jesus rides through the crowd on a donkey as they wave palm branches and sing praises. For the third consecutive year, Northstar Kids was able …

Praying the A-List Prayers

Blog, Children's Ministry

As parents, how would you describe your average prayers for your children? Safety and security? Health and well-being? When I was growing up, I remember hearing my own mother praying for these things for myself and my sister. But what about passion? What about purpose? When you lift up your kids in prayer, are you doing so with the hopes …

7 Ways for Your Family to Celebrate Valentine’s Day

Blog, Children's Ministry

It happens every year and it’s really no surprise once it gets here. After all, the stores have been hitting us all in the face with hearts and chocolates since the day after Christmas. If you’re caught off guard by Valentine’s Day, then you probably haven’t been out in public in over a month. And, if that’s the case, I’m …

What the Kids Are Talking About

Blog, Children's Ministry

It’s always exciting to begin a new year, isn’t it? It can be like starting over with a clean slate. Everything is bright and shiny, and it’s almost as if life has that new car smell all over again. Well, maybe not the smell so much, but it is good to look at a new year as if we have …
