Jeff became Northstar’s second pastor in 2009 after the retirement of founding pastor Bob Jackson. He and his family are from the pine woods of southeast Arkansas where he served as a campus minister at the University of Arkansas at Monticello for 8 years before planting Journey Church and serving as its founding pastor for 6 years.
I love life – mainly because of my relationship with Jesus Christ. I’m ecstatic about the change He’s made in me, and I’ve pledged my life to help others discover the joy of following Him.
Family-wise, Jeff’s wife Carolyn is a photographer and a homemaker. Sam is 14 and into all things sports and outdoors. Adelyn, 11, is their dancer/comedian/softball player/musician. Jeff and his family love life and are eager to help lead Northstar Church to become a people that encourage others and build spiritual leaders. He blogs regularly at journeyguy.com.

Cody Davenport comes from a very musical family. Both of his parents traveled together in a Southern Gospel group before getting married. Cody’s older brother, Travis, is also very musically gifted and showed Cody the “ropes” when he was younger. Cody has been leading worship since the early years of junior high. In fact, the whole reason he picked up the guitar was because there was no one else in the youth group to play for worship. Cody graduated from Liberty University in the spring of 2007 and came to Northstar that same fall.
He was married in June of 2008 to LaRae, and he says that he would definitely not be able to do ministry without her supporting him all the way. Cody loves people, but also realizes that he is not trying to make people happy; his end goal is to make God happy. What better way of accomplishing this then helping to bring God’s people to a place of true worship. You can check out Cody’s blog here.
Dave grew up in Pulaski County. In May 2002, he graduated from Radford University, married his best friend Mandy, and moved to Charlotte to serve as a Student Ministry Pastor in a church plant. In 2007, Dave and crew relocated to Cincinnati to earn a Masters Degree in Pastoral Leadership with a concentration on church planting/church growth. In November 2009, after feeling called to move back to their roots the Farris’ landed in Christiansburg.
While doing follow up research for his Masters, their family visited Northstar (because they overslept and missed the church service they were planning on attending) and have been here ever since. Along the journey, Dave and Mandy acquired Jeremiah (2003) and Thomas (2007).
Viktor is the coordinator for our GAP (Graduates And Professionals) ministry. Viktor was born in Russia, then at the age of five his family moved to Morristown, TN where he grew up. He is currently a graduate student at VT in Mechanical Engineering where he gets to play with robots for “research”. Viktor’s first small group experience was what originally drew him to Northstar and has been a ministry focus for him ever since. He enjoys fiddling with photography, hiking (especially in the fall), and occasionally reading the queue of books he seems to be collecting.
Hannah grew up the oldest of four kids (now 7) and always knew she wanted to work with children in some capacity. She married Michael in the summer of 2005 and graduated from the University of Alabama in Human Development and Family Studies a year later. They started their own family study in March of 2008 with the birth of their daughter, Aiden and the fun continues with their newest experiment, Norah, born July 2010.
Hannah loves good music, smiling, chai, and chocolate. She loves the innocence and wonder of children and seeing them discover Jesus’ love for them. She especially loves hearing Aiden tell Norah about God and how he made all the creatures!
